Set your course for the Opal Coast
The Opal Coast, located in the Hauts de France region of northern France, is world-famous for its exquisite landscapes, beaches, resorts, and historic towns. It stretches along the North Sea and the English Channel, from the Belgian border to the Somme Bay by way of Berck-sur-Mer. It owes its name (Côte d’Opale in French) to the uniquely magical opal colour that the sea takes on at sunset.
The Opal Coast is home to a number of stunning natural sites like the Authie Bay, with its exceptional flora and fauna including white storks and different species of seals, just a 20 minute walk from the hotel, the Somme Bay and its seals (30 minutes from the hotel) and Capes Blanc-Nez and Gris-Nez (1 hour from the hotel). It is also home to renowned resorts with vast sandy beaches, including Wimereux, Hardelot, Le Touquet, and of course Berck-sur-Mer.
The region also boasts a rich historical heritage, embodied by towns like Dunkirk, Calais, Boulogne-sur-Mer, Montreuil-sur-Mer and Saint-Omer, as well as places haunted by the memory of the world wars, such as Ambleteuse and its Musée 39-45 (a history museum dedicated to WWII), the Eperlecques Bunker, and the Fort de la Crèche coastal battery.
The Opal Coast is also home to numerous family attractions, including Nausicaa, the National Marine Centre (45 minutes from the hotel), Laby'Parc near Le Touquet (an open-air amusement park for a full immersion in the region's natural beauty), or Maréis, the maritime fishing discovery centre in Étaples-sur-mer (30 minutes from the hotel).
